PnR Decision 2v2
Train handler and screener reads against varied PnR coverage.
Players
2v2 (live coverage call)
Court
Half court
Time
12-15 min
Equipment
Balls
Description
Start with a 2v2 setup at the wing. Coach calls 'drop / blitz / switch / ICE' as the handler turns the corner. Two reps per offensive pair, then rotate.
The constraint
Coach calls the defensive coverage just before the screen. Offense must read live.
CLA principle
Variability in coverage preserves perception-action coupling; rotating coverages stops pattern-learning.
Coaching points
- Handler reads the big first; the on-ball defender is secondary.
- Screener's roll/pop is a read, not a script.
Common mistakes
- Handler refusing the screen when drop is being played.
- Screener slipping every time regardless of coverage.
