Horns Set
Two bigs at the elbows, two shooters in the corners — the most flexible starting formation in basketball.
Definition
Horns is an offensive alignment with the point guard at the top, two bigs at the elbows, and two players in the corners. It opens into PnR, double-drag, flare, and split-cut continuations.
Why it matters
Horns gives the offense the most options from a single starting picture — defenses cannot pre-scout one answer.
Examples
- Horns Flare: ball-side PnR with weak-side big flare-screening the corner.
- Horns Twist: rejecting the first screen to use the second.
Practical application
- Install three Horns continuations as a series, not as separate plays.
- Always have a counter for the most likely defensive coverage.
Common mistakes
- Running Horns without floor balance — both corners must be filled.
- Forcing the first action when the second is open.
