Finishing Packages vs Help
Three finishes for three help situations: ahead of the help, on top of the help, late on the help.
Definition
A finishing package is a small library of finishes matched to where the help defender arrives relative to your gather.
Why it matters
Players with one finish get blocked. Players with three finishes punish whichever help the defense gives.
Examples
- Help is late → straight-line layup, high off the glass.
- Help is on top → floater or eurostep.
- Help is ahead → up-and-under, reverse, or kick.
Practical application
- Drill each finish from both sides, both hands.
- Use a live help defender so the choice is real.
Common mistakes
- Pre-deciding the finish before reading the help.
