Passing on the Move
Game passes happen off the dribble, on balance, on time, on target.
Definition
Passing on the move is the ability to deliver an accurate pass while in motion — driving, sliding, or relocating — without pre-gathering or telegraphing.
Why it matters
Defenders read pre-passes. The pass that beats them is the one that comes out of the dribble at full speed.
Examples
- Pocket pass to a roller out of a live dribble.
- Drive-and-kick to the corner without picking up the ball.
Practical application
- Practice one-hand pushes off either hand at full speed.
- Pass off the dribble in every finishing drill.
Common mistakes
- Gathering the ball before passing — the defense recovers.
